Overview
After creating KPIs, the next step is to update them regularly to reflect your latest data and progress.
KPI updates help teams track trends over time, spot early changes in performance, and provide visibility into business health.
Each update includes a numeric value (the current measurement) and an optional narrative (context for the change).
KPIs can be updated directly from:
The KPI Side Panel
The Team Page (KPIs tab)
The My Objectives Page (My KPIs section)
What is a KPI Update?
When creating a KPI, an update cadence is set — daily, weekly, monthly, or quarterly.
This determines how often the KPI is expected to receive new data.
Each update includes:
Date — this can be today, a past date, or a future date.
Value: a numeric entry that represents the current measurement.
Narrative (optional): context or an explanation for the number (for example, trends, events, or actions that affected the result).
If the KPI is connected to an external data source (e.g., Salesforce, Jira, Excel, Google Sheets, or GitHub), values update automatically.
Manual KPIs require the Owner, Co-Owners, or Data Provider to post updates according to the defined cadence.
Updating KPIs
Option 1: From the KPI Side Panel
Click the KPI name to open the side panel.
Select Update in the top-right corner.
Choose a Date — this can be today, a past date, or a future date.
Enter a new numeric value.
(Optional) Add a narrative to explain the update.
Click Save.
Your new value will appear on the KPI chart and timeline immediately.
Option 2: From the Teams Page
Navigate to Teams > [Team Name] > KPIs Tab.
Hover over the KPI you own or manage.
Click Update (inline icon or from the kebab menu).
Choose a Date, enter the updated value and narrative (optional).
Click Save.
If the KPI is automated, the value refreshes from the connected data source, but a narrative can still be added or edited for additional context.
Option 3: From the My Objectives Page
Go to Objectives > My Objectives from the top navigation.
Scroll to the My KPIs (visible if you own or co-own any KPIs).
Hover over the KPI and click Update.
Choose a date, enter the new value and narrative (optional).
Click Save.
Add Data for a New Date
If you need to enter data outside of the set cadence (for example, for a missed update or a special event), you can add a new entry manually.
In the KPI Side Panel, click Add data for new date.
Select a Date not covered by the cadence — past or future.
Enter the update value.
(Optional) Add a narrative for context.
Click Add and then Save.
The Date field is editable — the update can be applied to any chosen date within the KPI’s active range.
Who can post KPI updates?
KPI Owner, Co-Owners, and Data Provider, Team Manager and Team Co-Managers.
Best Practices
Update consistently: Follow the cadence to keep data fresh and reliable.
Add context: Use narratives to explain the “why” behind each number.
Use ad-hoc updates: Capture special cases or events that fall outside cadence.
Review trends: Use the KPI chart to identify performance shifts and act early.
